Terms of service

By downloading, installing, or using the AskIRL mobile application, you agree to be bound by these terms of service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the app.

AskIRL: Let your phone do the awkward part. Approach someone, respectfully. AskIRL is the app for the ten seconds you always lose. You notice someone, you freeze, you leave, and everyone does it. Pick a vibe, hold your phone out, and let them read it: no accounts, no swiping, no strangers in your DMs, just one real moment, handled well.

You must be at least 17 years of age to use the app. By using the app, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.

Where the app offers sign-in, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You must not use another person's account without permission.

You agree not to:

• Use the app for any unlawful purpose.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the app or its backend systems.
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the app.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the app.
• Use the app to transmit harmful, offensive, or abusive content.

AskIRL displays short written messages on your screen so you can show them to a person in front of you. It is not a dating service, a messaging service, or a social network. It has no user directory, no profiles, no matching, and no way to contact anyone who hasn't personally handed you a way to reach them.

You agree that you will not:

• Use AskIRL to approach anyone who has already declined. One approach is enough.
• Use it on anyone who can't freely walk away from you, including anyone working a shift such as waitstaff, cashiers, security, or service staff.
• Use it on anyone who appears to be under 18 if you are not.
• Write custom approaches that are sexual, comment on someone's body, harass, threaten, demean, or imply anyone owes you a response.
• Type another person's contact details on their behalf, or pressure anyone to share more than they chose to.

AskIRL provides text on a screen. It does not supervise, verify, or take part in any interaction that follows. You are solely responsible for your conduct and for any consequence of approaching another person, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for what happens between you and anyone you approach.

AskIRL+ is an auto-renewing subscription offered monthly or annually. Payment is charged to your Google Play or App Store account at purchase, and subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends; you're charged for renewal within 24 hours of that. Manage or cancel any time in your Google Play or App Store subscription settings, not within AskIRL directly. Prices are shown in your local currency before purchase and may vary by region, refunds follow the relevant store's own policy and can't be issued by us directly, and any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited once you purchase a subscription.

You retain ownership of the content you create in the app. By using the app, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store and display that content solely to provide the service to you. We do not claim ownership of your personal data.

The AskIRL name, logo, design, and all related content are the intellectual property of the developer and are protected by applicable copyright and trademark laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the app without prior written consent.

If you enable notifications, you consent to receiving push notifications from the app. You can disable them at any time via your device settings.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the app at any time, without notice, if you violate these terms or engage in conduct we determine to be harmful to the app or its users. You may delete your account at any time; upon deletion, all your data is permanently removed.

The app is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including uninterrupted or error-free operation, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy of any content.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

We may update these terms from time to time and will note significant changes by updating the "last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
