Child safety standards

AskIRL has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) in any form. This page describes the standards we hold the app to and how we act if that standard is ever violated.

AskIRL is for adults 18 and over. Every user confirms this during onboarding before the app can be used. The app is not directed at children and is not listed in a children's or family category.

AskIRL has no user directory, no profile browsing, no photo or video upload, no camera or photo-library access, and no open messaging between users. The only text a recipient can send is a short, length-limited reply typed in the moment, in person, on the sender's own device. There is no mechanism in the app for exchanging images, videos, or files of any kind. This is a deliberate architectural choice, not an incidental one, and it removes the primary channels CSAE material is typically shared through.

Approach content is written and reviewed before it ships. User-submitted custom approaches are limited to short text and are prohibited from containing anything sexual, anything referencing a minor, or anything that could be used to groom, solicit, or exploit a child. The in-app Safety & Guidelines explicitly instruct users never to approach anyone who appears to be under 18.

Anyone can report a safety concern, including suspected CSAE, from Settings → Safety & guidelines → Report a problem in the app, or by email. Reports are reviewed promptly, and no account or personal information is required to submit one.

Any report or discovery of suspected CSAE is escalated immediately. Where legally required, we report apparent CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) via the CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org) and to relevant law enforcement and regulatory authorities in the applicable jurisdiction. We cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations.
